Shibori Workshop with Wabi Sabi Design - SWWSD001

Shibori is the Japanese technique of resist dyeing, which is used inventively to create various shaped designs on indigo dyed fabric.

In this popular shibori indigo dyeing workshop - which is suitable for both beginners and those with dying expertise and knowledge -  you will learn how natural indigo is made in Japan; learn ten or more shibori techniques and dye a Japanese cotton handkerchief, Japanese sarashi cotton scarf and a signature linen/rayon blend scarf.

You will also learn what you can make in your future projects (bags and quilt tops etc) with indigo dyed materials.

The workshop teachers, Shuji and Alison of Wabi Sabi Designs have been trading in Japanese textiles for over two decades, and in that time, have been teaching indigo shibori workshops in Japan and across Australia to beginner and intermediate students. They also lead hands-on textile tours in Japan.

All material costs are included in the workshop fee for 1 x handkerchief, 2 x scarves, though more pieces of fabric can be purchased on the day if times allows to produce more items. You will also have the opportunity to purchase take home kits.

Please note that participants cannot bring their own materials for dyeing as we cannot guarantee the result.

We recommend wearing old clothes and shoes. Aprons and gloves will be provided on the day.
